David Holmes, P.E.

Mr. Holmes received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1960. In 1967 he received a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Prior to forming his own firm, Mr. Holmes was design group leader for Grumman Aerospace Corporation. He worked on the Apollo project, responsible for the active thermal control of the spacecraft, and a portion of the astronaut life support during its design and testing. He was also the Environmental Control shift leader in the Mission Support Room, Bethpage for all of the flights from Apollo 10 to Apollo 17 including the first lunar landing and the crucial phases of Apollo 13.

Since 1979, Mr. Holmes has been the principal of his own firm, Holmes Engineering, specializing in HVAC, electrical power, power generation and fire alarm building systems. In addition, he has extensive background in the energy conservation field, having performed over 100 studies on buildings to assess energy conservation opportunities.

Mr. Holmes has also designed or guided the design of over a hundred hospitals and health care facilities in the New York City area and on Long Island. This work has included HVAC systems, high-pressure boiler system sprinkler systems, smoke detection systems, and building emergency generating systems. Some of the projects include a new 15-ton HVAC system for the Alcohol Crisis Center, Bayley Seton Hospital in Staten Island, and a new HVAC replacement system for St. Charles Hospital, Port Jefferson, New York. Mr. Holmes' engineering work also includes electrical design and projects involving fire alarm systems, and he has experience in designing security systems for hospitals and multiplex facilities.

He is familiar with very type of HVAC system from simple unit systems, to 400-ton chillers with tower cooling, and air handling equipment of all sizes, air flow design, heat pumps, and all other filtration and air moving operations. He brings to Champagne Associates his expertise in this aspect of engineering to assist on work where his background and intimate knowledge in this field is required.

He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York.
