Dennis Toaspern
Dennis Toaspern has served as an expert witness and consultant for over ten years and has extensive motorcycle experience and expertise in all areas of motorcycle/ATV accident reconstruction, speed determinations, skid testing, rider performance evaluation, mechanical malfunction analysis, report preparation and court testimony.
Mr. Toaspern began his career in 1960 as a Civil Engineering Aide for the Sullivan County Highway Department and in 1965 became Numerical Control Technician for Universal Instruments in Binghamton, NY, eventually becoming Division Quality Control Manager. While there he managed and implemented quality control procedures and systems for sub-assembly manufacturing services under contract to major engineering and electronic industries and was responsible for the design, modification, machining and fabrication of prototype automated assembly machines.
From 1976 to 1986, Mr. Toaspern was President and Chief Executive Officer of Toaspern, Inc., a franchised, multi-brand motorcycle dealership. As such he was responsible for managing and directing all operations of this New York State licensed motorcycle and snowmobile dealership including sales, repair, and inspection services. He developed expertise in fabrication and performance evaluation of motorcycles, ATV's, snowmobiles and related equipment.
Mr. Toaspern currently serves as a consultant and provides research, consultation services and expert testimony for the courts through client firms throughout the United States and Canada in both technical and mechanical aspects of motorcycles as well as accident reconstruction.
Mr. Toaspern has served as an instructor in motorcycle operations for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, and for Onondaga/Cortland BOCES at Syracuse, NY. In addition, he has served as lecturer on motorcycle accident reconstruction and Injury Mechanisms for the New York Association of County Executives (Coroners) in Syracuse, NY, on a Motorcycle Mechanics at Broome Community College, in Binghamton, NY.
Mr. Toaspern is certified in motorcycle accident reconstruction by Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, as a Motorcycle Instructor by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and as an AW Instructor by the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America, both of which are located in Costa Mesa, California. Mr. Toaspern is a past officer of the Board of Directors of the NYS Motorcycle Dealers Association, is a member of the American Motorcyclist Association and holds a NYS Department of Motor Vehicle Motorcycle Inspector's License.
